Team Meeting

Tonight we had a wrap up meeting for our Relay for Life team, The Raging Hormones. It was fun to be together again. We talked about our successes and the things we'd change if we did it again. Surprisingly everyone wants to do it again. We'll keep our name and continue to build on our theme. Hopefully we'll get some new recruits too. After much discussion our team leader, we affectionately call her our Head Hormone awarded us each prizes. I got a bottle of orange juice and sunshine sun glasses because the morning of the relay was the first time I had seen the sunrise.

Today my picture is of a sunset. I'm not sure when I'll see my next sunrise, probably at the next Relay for Life, maybe I'll even take a picture of it.

Relay for Life: After the Event

Where to begin? The event was amazing. There were so many people there. Over 50 teams registered and in the end over $150,000 was raised for the Canadian Cancer Society. I'm still tired... I can't remember the last time I stayed up all night, maybe giving birth to Reebs? That's a long time ago.

The Relay opened with a survivor's lap, there were over 100 survivors present including my good friends Bob and Dianne. Each survivor carried a sign displaying the number of years since their cancer diagnosis. One man's sticks out in particular, his sign read 10 years and 6 months. After the survivor lap came the caregiver lap. I joined in then. I was a caregiver to my brother. It was quite an emotional lap. Memories of times spent with him came rushing back. Good thing I had kleenex in my pocket. On the third lap everyone joined in and the relay was under way. All night there were bands playing and food was being served. It was a lovely time to chitty chat and meet new people. Late into the night we wore funny hats and experimented with wigs.

Every time you completed a lap on the track you were given a bead, by the end of the event I had 35 beads which meant I had walked 14 km. I definitely have the blisters to prove it. My picture of the day for Saturday is of the luminaries I purchased in memory of my Mom, Dad and brother.

Sunday after church we went down to the beach and had some family pictures taken. I'm not allowed to post the pictures yet because Reebs hasn't been seen by her friends in her prom dress. I doubt her friends read my blog, but I promised. Techno Dude did get this really nice shot of the island so I'll use that.

Now I'm off to work to do some more editing and then to bed for a good night's sleep. Maybe tomorrow I'll feel human again.

I Love Pedicures!

Today I had the pleasure of taking Reebs for her first pedicure. It was so nice to sit and relax and have our feet prettied up. Now her feet are ready for prom and mine are ready for the Relay for Life which is happening tomorrow.

This morning I met with a few of my team members from The Raging Hormones and we made signs for our campsite and ones we could carry around. Everyone is really excited to be participating. There are nine of us on the team and each of us is raging in their own way :-)

Today I must work on editing visitor submissions for Squigly's Playhouse. I hope I make a lot of headway because I think the next two days will be a bust and I don't particularly want to work on Sunday. Before I know it it will be Tuesday and time to upload the new content.

M is coming home for the weekend and I'm really looking forward to seeing her and loving her up. From the sounds of our recent telephone conversations she is in need of a little TLC.
